What Led Me to Dentistry

I grew up sure I would become a veterinarian. I loved animals and pictured myself caring for them every day.

Then, as a teenager, I took a job as a vet tech. On my first day, I was asked to help put an injured hamster to sleep. It was heartbreaking. Soon after, I learned more about what veterinary training can involve, including euthanizing animals as part of learning medication dosing. That realization stayed with me. I knew I wasn’t built for that path.

Around that same season of life, I was back in braces again. My orthodontist invited me to shadow, and I saw something that surprised me. Dentistry wasn’t just clinical. It was personal. It helped people feel comfortable, feel confident, and feel like themselves again. That clicked for me right away. I chose dentistry because it let me care for people in a hands-on way while building relationships that last.

More About Dr. Kantaris-Granda

A Background Built on Service

My early career was shaped by serving in the U.S. Navy, where I had the honor of caring for Sailors and Marines. That experience sharpened my focus, strengthened my attention to detail, and reinforced what matters most to me as a dentist: staying calm, being prepared, and treating every patient with respect.

I also received the Navy’s Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) for dental school, and later served as a Lieutenant Commander. I’m proud of that chapter because it taught me how to lead with both confidence and humility.

What I Enjoy Most in the Chair

I’m a general dentist at heart. I like being the person you can count on for everyday care and the bigger moments too. If you ask what I enjoy most, it’s helping you feel better.

Some of my favorite procedures are crowns and extractions because they often bring real relief and a fresh start. I also enjoy the problem-solving side of dentistry, where careful planning leads to a result you can feel good about.

My Approach to Patient Care

I want you to feel safe here. No pressure. No judgment. Just honest dentistry and clear options.

I believe great care starts with listening. I take time to understand what you want, what you need, and what you’re nervous about. Then we make a plan together that fits your goals and your comfort level. I hold myself to a high ethical standard, and I never forget that you’re trusting me with something personal.

I also want my patients to feel like family. When you’re in my chair, you’re not just a name on a schedule. You’re a person, and you deserve care that’s thoughtful, gentle, and thorough.

Staying Connected to the Profession

I’m a proud member of the American Dental Association and have also been involved with state and local dental organizations in California.

Life Outside the Office

When I’m not practicing dentistry, I’m usually planning a trip, heading to Disney with my husband, baking cupcakes, or spending time training and competing in dog sports with my dogs.

A Note to Alachua

I’m grateful for the kindness I’ve been shown in the Alachua community. If you’re looking for a dentist who will listen closely, treat you with compassion, and help you feel confident in your care, I’d love to meet you.
